Ways of the World is my "solo project"--but it's certainly not a solo effort. I was wonderfully lucky to have been able to assemble my favorite local musicians for this recording. Paul Brown recorded it and plays banjo on one cut. The other musicians are John Herrmann, Phil Jamison, Meredith McIntosh, Trevor Stuart, and Travis Stuart.

What folks are saying
about Ways of the World:

"A joyful collection of old-time fiddle tunes dazzlingly played by Rayna and other extraordinary musicians."
-- Folkworks Newsletter

"What can I say? This girl has got the passion and the talent and it all comes out in her fiddling. Her first solo release has been met with rave reviews. She is accompanied by Paul Brown, John Herrman, Phil Jamison, Meredith Mcintosh, Travis & Trevor Stuart. A highly recommended, 'must-have' release."
-- The Old-Time Music Home Page

A stellar debut from one of the newest generation of tunemongers! Rayna Gellert is the daughter of old-time music stalwart Dan Gellert -- and this new CD is ample evidence that she's a formidable fiddler (and, on one cut, banjo player) in her own right. Like all the best fiddlers, Gellert takes the old tunes and puts a fresh, personal spin on them, rediscovering the excitement in melodies like "Great Big Taters In The Sandy Land," "Ducks On the Millpond," "Wagoner One-Step," and others. Great stuff here, played with youthful spontaneity and enthusiasm, yet deeply rooted in tradition.
-- Elderly Instruments (reviewed as a "Hot Platter")

"Young fiddler Rayna Gellert is relatively new to the old-time scene, but her debut CD sounds like veterans' craft. Whether she's honking on "Arkansas Traveler," loping through a modal tune like "Sally Comin' Through the Rye," or playing her own yearning "Swannanoa Waltz," Gellert's deep feel for the music is unmistakable. Her fiddle is nimble, energized, and completely in the pocket (an achievement for a recovering classical player). With alternating backup bands of John Herrmann (guitar), Meredith McIntosh (bass), and Phil Jamison (banjo); and Trevor Stuart (guitar) and Travis Stuart (banjo), this CD brims with energy, enthusiasm, and grace."
-- Acoustic Guitar

"Rayna plays with an incredible sensitivity, restraint, and skill that is uncommon."
